Chicago, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (5-2-5) played to a 0-0 draw against UIC on Thursday.
"I'm happy with a point on the road. I thought we created our best opportunities in the first period and showed resilience in the second period," head coach Graeme Orr said.
The Salukis started strong in the first half, registering four shots within the first 10 minutes. McKensey Bunch took two of those shots, both of which were off-target. Southern Illinois had a total of seven shots in the first 45 minutes but none were on-goal. UIC out-shot the Salukis, 8-7, but neither team found the back-of-the-net before halftime.
Southern Illinois struggled offensively in the second half, managing only one shot and no corner kicks. UIC dominated most of the play, recording eight shots and five corner kicks in the period. The Flames finished the match with 11 corner kicks, compared to the Salukis' one.
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made eight saves to keep UIC scoreless. Lucy Horn played her 12th consecutive 90-minute game.
The Salukis will continue their road trip on Sunday, Oct. 6, when they face Valparaiso at 1 p.m.
