CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois Women's Volleyball was swept by UIC Friday night in Carbondale.Â
The Salukis (10-13, 3-9 MVC) had chances to swing the match in their favor early, but could not take advantage in key moments and UIC (17-7, 9-3 MVC) pulled away to sweep the contest.
Kelly Franklin led the Salukis with 9 kills, while Larissa Seger denied four attacks and Anna Jaworski tallied 14 assists.
UIC held a small lead throughout the majority of set one, but Southern sent the frame to deuces after three straight points capped by a kill from Kelly Franklin. The rally was to no avail as the Flames scored back-to-back points to go up 1-0 in the match.
SIU led set two 9-3, but a service error gave UIC enough of a spark to storm back and win the set 25-18, highlighted by a 6-0 run at the end of set two.
The Flames never trailed in set three and completed the sweep with a 25-17 victory.
The Salukis had no answer for Zahria Woodard, who had seven blocks on the night and fueled the UIC effort.
