Recap | Salukis fall in hard fought battle against Drake

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois Women's Volleyball lost in four sets to Drake Friday night in Carbondale. The Salukis fought hard against one of The Valley's best and pushed the Bulldogs to the brink.Â
Southern Illinois took set one, but could not close the Bulldogs out in key moments and Drake squeezed out a 3-1 match victory.Â
Annabelle Sulish led the Salukis with a team-high 17 kills, Cecilia Bulmahn had 24 digs, and Anna Jaworski added to her historic total with 26 assists.
With the match tied at 15, Southern closed out set one with some of their best volleyball of the season, with Sulish cashing in the final two points in a convincing 25-18 victory.
The Salukis were poised to take a commanding 2-0 match lead after going up 24-20, but a costly service error set the Bulldogs up for a 6-0 run to steal set two and tie the match up at onw\e.
Drake took a 5-4 lead in set three and never trailed the remainder of the frame, taking the energy out of Davies Gym and putting the Salukis' backs against the wall down 2-1.
The Salukis held a narrow 22-20 lead at the end of set four, but another late run clinched the Drake victory and won the Bulldogs the match. The run was capped by solo blocks from Bliss Beck and Megan Witte.
UP NEXT
Southern Illinois will get ready for senior night against UNI beginning at 5 p.m. on ESPN+ Saturday night.
