Recap | Salukis Close Gulf Coast Showcase with Win over Florida Tech, 81-54

ESTERO, Fla. – Southern Illinois basketball snapped a three-game losing skid Wednesday afternoon with an 81-54 win over Florida Tech during the final day of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
Five Salukis scored in double-digits in the win led by Kennard Davis Jr. who had 15 points. Jarrett Hensley scored 14 and Sheridan Sharp added 12 for the Dawgs.
Davion Sykes put together his best game in a Saluki uniform with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting while corralling a team-high nine rebounds. Ali Dibba scored 11 while dishing out a team-high five assists for the Salukis.
Southern led wire-to-wire and took a 33-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. SIU continued to add to its advantage in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 48-29. Davis and Hensley combined for 19 points in the second half. SIU closed the game on a 9-0 run en route to its third win of the season.
The Salukis (3-5) held a 39-26 advantage on the glass with all nine players recording at least two rebounds in the win. Southern also had a 50-24 advantage in paint scoring over FT.
As a team the Salukis shot 54 percent (33-61) from the field, 33 percent (6-18) from behind the arc, and 82 percent (9-11) from the free throw line. Southern held Florida Tech to just 35 percent shooting (18-52) and four 3-pointers overall.
Davante Brown led Florida Tech with 17 points on 5-for-18 shooting.
