EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Southern Illinois women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the final day of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship with 1126.5 points and a third place finish behind Indiana State and Missouri State.Â

"Overall, we were pleased with our team performance at the meet. In a three-and-a-half-day championship there are highs and lows, and this group of Dawgs fought extremely hard all week. Our depth showed in many events throughout the meet and we know where we need to improve to compete for the championship in the future" head coach Geoff Hanson said.

Celia Pulido started the Salukis off strong with a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke finishing in 1:56.83. In the 100-yard Susanna Hernadez had the 50.11 fourth place finish. Olivia Herron took the first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing in 2:14.60. In the 200-yard fly the top finishing Saluki was Tamara De la Torre with a fifth place finish. Â

Once again Celia Pulido set a new MVC record and new program record in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:53.80. This is the second time this weekend Pulido has set both a conference and program record.Â

"Celia Pulido put together a very special meet and really deserved the Swimmer of the Year award she won, and we're excited to move on to NCAAs with her in a few weeks" Hanson said.Â

Next up Susanna Hernadez sets the program record in the 100-yard freestyle with her third place finish dropping 0.64 for a 49.47 finishing time. The 400-yard freestyle relay group consisting of Bea Padron, Zaria Terry, Susanna Hernadezand Celia Pulido broke the school record with a finishing time of 3:18.95!Â

Olivia Herron takes first in the 200-yard breaststroke finals with a 2:12.17 finishing time. Tamara De la Torre had the fifth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly.Â
