SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (8-18, 3-13 MVC) ended its four-game road trip with a 77-42 loss at Missouri State on Sunday.
It was all Lady Bears from start to finish, as the hosts led, 23-9, at the end of the first quarter. Missouri State shot 55.6% from the field to begin the game, while SIU shot 28.6% on the other side.
Southern Illinois had its strongest quarter of the game in the second, out-scoring Missouri State, 14-12. This was the lone quarter in which the Lady Bears scored below 20 points.
At the half, Southern trailed, 35-23. SIU shot a combined 8-of-24 from the field in the first half.
The Lady Bears got back-on-track in the third, out-scoring Southern Illinois, 20-10, on 7-of-13 shooting. Missouri State was also a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the quarter.
Missouri State was dominant on both ends in the fourth, pacing the Salukis, 22-9, to win by a final score of 77-42.
Southern shot 27.7% from the field and went 3-of-10 from deep in Sunday's loss, which drops SIU's record to 8-18 overall and 3-13 in MVC play.
Laniah Randle was the only Saluki to score in double-figures, as the reigning MVC Player of the Week posted 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field.
The Salukis will return home on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 6 p.m. to host Illinois State.
