News | Anna Carder Named MVC Player of the Week

Carbondale, Ill. - Sophomore Anna Carder was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Carder started all four games for the Salukis during their 4-0 weekend at the Hilltopper Spring Fling, totaling five hits for a .714 batting average.
Carder reached base in all but two of her plate appearances as she picked up a walk over the weekend as well. Two of her five hits went for extra-bases as she notched a double as well as her first home run of the season against Northern Illinois (3/2) on Saturday night. Southern was only able to manage one hit through the first seven innings against Western Kentucky on Sunday before Carder sparked an eighth-inning rally with a leadoff single which led to the game-winning run.
Making two starts behind the plate and two starts as the designated player, she caught a pair of runners attempting to steal as she now totals three on the season.Â
Carder and the Salukis make their home debut this Friday, March 8 at 6PM against Loyola as they kickoff the 2024 Coach B Classic.Â
