CARBONDALE, Ill. – Murray State scored six runs in the final three innings en route to a 7-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Itchy Jones Stadium to down Southern Illinois and secure a series win.
The Racers (22-13, 6-6 MVC) outhit the Salukis 13-8 in the game and earned three walks and a hit-by-pitch to push past Southern.
Cole Christman continued to swing a hot bat as he put the Salukis on top in the first inning with a single through the right side of the infield to bring home Mathieu Vallee who led off the game with a single.
Saluki starting pitcher Aidan Foeller settled in to allow just three hits over the first four innings of play. The Racers were able to record back-to-back-to-back two-out singles in the fifth to push across their first run of the game. Foeller would get the strikeout to end the Murray State half of the inning.

After the Racers put two runners on in the sixth, the Salukis would go to the bullpen for Alec Nigut. The southpaw would get a fly ball to right to end the threat.

Leadoff man Drew Vogel connected on a solo home run to left field to cut the lead to one run. The Racers tied it with an RBI single before Taylor Howell connected on a two-run home run – his team-leading 11th home run of the season.
