Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois dropped its series finale with Bradley on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 3-1. The Salukis had won three-straight games prior to the loss, but remain atop the Valley standings with a 26-8 (11-3 MVC) record.Â
Â
Jackie Lis extended her hitting streak to 13 consecutive games with a solo shot in the first inning, making it back-to-back games where the Dawgs homered in the first. The opposite side field blast from Lis marked her second of the weekend after sending one out in Saturday's 8-3 win. Â
Â
Madi Eberle made the start for the Salukis but was replaced by Maddia Groff in the bottom of the first after a pair of leadoff walks. Groff was able to get out of the jam after giving up a walk of her own and strand the bases loaded in the first frame after a pair of strikeouts.Â
Â
The Braves loaded the bases again in the second and executed this time around. With two outs and the bases juiced, Bradley's Sydney Kennedy delivered with a bases-clearing double to take their first lead of the weekend.
Â
Following the second inning, Groff kept the Braves in check allowing just three hits the final five innings while not allowing more than one base runner in an inning.
Â
The Salukis were unable to get anything going on offense with just three hits and three walks on the day.Â
Â
Southern is back on the road for its final non-conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. The Salukis will head north again to Champaign to take on the Illini. SIU has played two Big Ten opponents so far this season (Iowa, Purdue 2x) with a 2-1 record. First pitch on Wednesday, April 10 is set for 4 PM.
