
Recap | Salukis Shutout Racers for 1-0 Win in Series Opener

Murray, Ky. – Southern Illinois started its weekend series in Murray with a 1-0 win over the Racers Friday afternoon. The Salukis were held scoreless for the first six innings before a pair of extra-base hits from Jackie Lis and Elizabeth Warwick put the Salukis on top in the seventh.
Maddia Groff held Murray State in check for all seven innings as she improved to 27-3 on the year and is just one win shy of tying the program single-season record. Groff allowed just two hits and two walks on the day as she struck out five batters.
The Saluki defense continued to play at a high level with zero errors once again. running catch from center fielder Emma Austin. Austin chased down a ball that would've likely gone for extra bases but was able to make the catch on the warning track in right-center after a lengthy run.
Jackie Lis had two of the Salukis' four hits on the day including her second triple of the season that led off the big seventh inning before scoring her MVC-best 46th run of the season. Elizabeth Warwick doubled on the first pitch see saw in the very next at-bat to score Lis easily from third base. Warwick now totals 19 doubles on the season, tying her own single-season record from a year ago.
Southern Illinois now just needs one win in order to secure the MVC regular season championship.
The Salukis and Racers will now play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 PM due to inclement weather expected on Sunday. Game two of the doubleheader will begin approximately 30 minutes following the end of game one.
