KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (2-1-2) fell, 2-0, against Missouri-Kansas City on Thursday night.Â
"Disappointed to pick up our first loss of the season. However, Kansas City definitely deserved the result tonight," head coach Graeme Orr said. "I thought they were really good on the ball and they really suffocated any attacks that we had and seeing that I felt that we were our own downfall".Â
Kansas City scored both goals in the second half of play. The first goal came in the 55th minute from Kayda Kamolz to put the Roos up 1-0. Kansas City found the back of the net again in the 78th minute giving them the 2-0 lead.Â
Southern Illinois was out-shot 20-6. Guliana Balistreri was the only Saluki to have a shot on goal, while Ashlyn Henrie led the Salukis with two shots, followed by Sophia Schlicklin and McKinley Stiff with one shot each.Â
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano tallied six saves against Kansas City. Solano was the only Saluki to play the full 90 minutes Thursday night.Â
"We're going to have to rest up now and learn and be better come the next game because the task just gets harder as you go along in the season," Orr said.Â
The Salukis will play again at home on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. against North Alabama.Â
