CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University men's golf team will compete in its second tournament of the fall when it heads to West Lafayette, Ind., to participate in the Purdue Fall Invitational. The Salukis will compete with 15 other teams in a two-day tournament. Starting Sunday, each team will play 36 holes, followed by 18 holes on Monday.
The Salukis will send a five-man squad and two individual golfers to West Lafayette – Anthony De Schutter, Frank Bellino, Leon Heitz, Carsen Silliman, Jan Wdowka. The two individual golfers are Oliver Ulrich and Lucas Lasley
The Purdue Fall Invitational will be played on the Kampen-Cosler Course. This course spans 7,546 yards and is a par-72 event. This course was voted as one of the most difficult courses in Indiana, and one of the best collegiate courses in the nation.
The Salukis, as a team, will look to improve from the first tournament of the fall season after a third-place finish with a score of (-6) at the Dolenc Invitational.
Newcomer Anthony De Schutter was the Salukis' top performer in his Saluki debut finishing tied for sixth with a total score of (-6) over three rounds of golf. Frank Bellino was the other top performer for the Salukis, shooting (-2) at the Dolenc Invitational.
Lucas Lasley will make his Saluki debut in West Lafayette. Lasley is a local product from Anna, Ill., and was part of the 2024 transfer class from John A. Logan College. Lasley is coming off a strong 2024 with two wins during the NCJAA season.
