Recap | Salukis Fall to Illinois State in Road Contest, 85-54

NORMAL, Ill. – Southern Illinois basketball fell to Illinois State, 85-54, Sunday afternoon at CEFCU Arena in Normal. SIU moved to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Illinois State (10-5, 2-2 MVC) knocked down 13 3-pointers in the win and finished the game shooting 60.8 percent (31-51) from the floor. Three Redbirds scored in double-digits led by guard Johnny Kinziger who had 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting to go with three assists.
Forward Jack Daugherty had 17 points off the bench, including five of ISU's 13 triples in the game. Jordan Davis added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win for the Redbirds.
The shorthanded Salukis struggled from the floor for the second-straight game, finishing shooting just 35.7 percent (20-56) while hitting just four 3-pointers in the loss. Southern's woes from the charity stripe continued as the team shot 10-for-23 from the line.
Illinois State scored the first two buckets of the game and never looked back, leading by double-digits from the 9:53 mark of the first half until the finish. SIU trailed 44-23 at the half with Jarrett Hensley leading the team with seven points.
Davion Sykes scored a team-high 11 points off the bench for the Salukis – a season-best for the forward. Sheridan Sharp and Hensley each scored 10 to round out the double-digit scorers for Southern. Freshman guard Drew Steffe scored nine in his first career start.
The Salukis were outrebounded 38-26 while bench scoring favored the Redbirds, 48-21.
