Soccer Ends Legacy Weekend with 1-0 Shutout of UIC
10/05/2025 | 9:05:00 | Women's Soccer
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Legacy Weekend came to close on Sunday with Southern Illinois soccer (9-2-2, 3-1-0) playing host to UIC (4-6-3, 0-2-2). Following an early SIU goal, the Salukis' defense locked things down and walked away with a 1-0 conference win.
"I think you saw today there are no easy games in the conference," says head coach Graeme Orr. "UIC is a great team; they ask a lot of questions of you. I thought both teams did well to try and get the ball down in play and we created the chance early on and took it. Wish we could've connected on a couple others but happy to get a shutout and happy to get the three points."

How It Happened
First Half
Southern's offense came out firing, generating a shot on goal 2:21 into the game. The Salukis then converted on a shot less than two minutes later when Schlicklin finished a play started by Balistreri and gave SIU a 1-0 lead.
Another shot on goal was not had until the 27th minute when Miller had to make her first save of the day. The Salukis then turned around and put up four shots on goal in a five minute span, but none beat the UIC keeper, who's play helped keep the score 1-0 heading into the halftime break.
Second Half
UIC made a switch in goal to second half, and SIU immediately challenged the new keeper with a pair of shots in the first seven-and-a-half minutes, but neither scored. Following those two shots, it was all UIC's offense, who generated four shots-on-goal throughout the remainder of the second half. But four saves from Miller, including a few highlight reel ones, kept the Flames at bay, securing the shutout win for the Salukis.

Southern now prepares for a trip to Murray State on Friday, Oct. 10. The two Missouri Valley Conference opponents face off at 3 p.m.
