Salukis Set for Appearance at Coast 2 Coast Music City Classic

CARBONDALE, Ill. – It is tournament time for Southern Illinois women's basketball (1-2, 0-0). Starting Tuesday, the Salukis are in Nashville, Tennessee, for the Coast 2 Coast Music City Classic. On Tuesday, they face Winthrop (3-3, 0-0) before taking on Arkansas (5-1, 0-0) on Wednesday.

Last Time Out
The Salukis' last game was supposed to be on Sunday, but their opponent, Austin Peay, cancelled the match due to health concerns among the team.
The last time SIU saw game action, they fell 81-50 at Missouri on Tuesday. The Salukis kept the matchup close early. After one quarter, SIU only trailed 22-18, and the deficit was just 10 points at halftime. Mizzou finally pulled away in the fourth quarter however, winning that quarter 24-8. Alayna Kraus, Kayla Cooper, and Karris Allen all tied for the team lead in points with 10 apiece. Jeniah Thompson had a nice game on the defensive end of the floor, swiping four steals while also grabbing a block.
The Matchups
This will be just the second time Winthrop and SIU match up. Their only meeting came in 2001 when the Eagles downed SIU 72-65 in Annapolis, Maryland. Winthrop enters this game 3-3 and is coming off a 82-29 win over Clinton (NCCAA). Only one of their wins this year came against a Division I, as they beat Queens (N.C.) on November 15. The Eagles have also faced off with one of the best teams in the nation this year, falling to #2 South Carolina 106-56 on November 19. Winthrop is coming off their best season under head coach Semeka Randall Lay, going 16-15 in 2024-25.
As for Arkansas, this will be the first time them and the Salukis ever face off. The Razorbacks sit 5-1 on the 2025-26 season, with their lone loss coming at Texas Tech on November 16. Arkansas will play one more game before facing SIU on Wednesday, playing Missouri Valley Conference member Drake on Tuesday, Nov. 25, as their first game at the Music City Classic.
