Last Time Out
SIU was last in action on Wednesday in game two of the Coast 2 Coast Music City Classic, where the Salukis fell 73-63 versus Arkansas. Alayna Kraus dropped a career-high 23 points and dished out four assists, just one assist behind SIU's leader in that category, Tkiyah Nelson. Nelson also led Southern in rebounds with five. Indya Green and Kayla Cooper were also in double-digit scoring with 14 and 12 points.
Fighting Until the Buzzer
Despite the eventual loss, SIU gave the Razorbacks a run for their money. After SIU led by eight after 10 minutes, the Salukis and Arkansas eventually went into halftime tied at 31-31. A 22-10 third quarter in favor of the Razorbacks appeared to sink the Salukis, but SIU ended up winning the fourth quarter, 22-20, and even pulled within seven points in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Matchups
The Salukis are winless against Western Kentucky all-time, with the Hilltoppers holding a 3-0 series advantage. They last met up in 2018, when the Hilltoppers won 83-76 on their home court. 2017 was the only time the squads played in Carbondale, with Western Kentucky winning that game 75-49.
So far this season, the Hilltoppers are 2-4. They currently ride a three-game losing streak dating back to November 14, losing games to Indiana State, #17/19 Vanderbilt, and Illinois. Their last win came on November 11 when they took down Wichita State 73-71. On the road this season, Western Kentucky is 0-2.
