Salukis Head to UAB for Wednesday Afternoon Game

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois women's basketball (1-5, 0-0) is back on the road Wednesday as they head to UAB (3-4, 0-0) for an 11 a.m. game.

SIU last competed on Sunday, falling 60-52 to Western Kentucky. Alayna Kraus led the team in scoring with 19 points while Indya Green finished with a near double-double of 10 points and nine rebounds. Tkiyah Nelson hit double-digit assists with 10. It was largely Western Kentucky's shooting touch from beyond the arc that sank the Salukis, as the Hilltoppers shot 40.9% from three and 48.0% from the field.
Seeing Double
Despite the loss on Sunday, Kraus continued her double-digit scoring streak to start the season. The Oral Roberts transfer has now scored 10+ points in all six games this season after her 19 point performance Sunday. Kraus, who was named a MVC Preseason Player to Watch, is averaging 16.8 points-per-game, which currently ranks fifth in the MVC. The sophomore is also second in The Valley for free-throw percentage with her mark of 92%.

Southern is winless versus UAB all-time, holding a 0-4 record. The two met up last season in Carbondale when the Blazer won 75-57. 2017 was the last time they competed in Birmingham, with UAB coming out on top 76-66.
