CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (4-18 overall, 2-11 conference) was dominated by Missouri State on Thursday night, falling by a final score of 83-48.
The Lady Bears shot 49.3% from the field, 50.0% from deep, and 63.6% at the free throw line on Thursday. On the other side, SIU struggled with its shot, posting a field-goal percentage of 38.9%, three-point percentage of 13.3%, and went 4-of-8 at the charity stripe.
Missouri State forced 21 turnovers and scored 24 points off of those turnovers. Majority of Southern's scoring came in the interior, as 30 of its 48 total points were scored in the paint.
Gift Uchenna had her 16th double-double of the season in the loss, scoring 11 points with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Joining Uchenna in double figures was Isabella Palmqvist who also tallied 11 points.
The Lady Bears got rolling early, out-scoring the Salukis, 26-14, in the first quarter.
Missouri State scored at least 23 points in each of the first three quarters, and shot at least 50% from the field and from three-point range in those three frames.
Southern was limited to 15 or fewer points in all four quarters, including a six-point third quarter. After shooting 60% from the field in the opening 10 minutes, the Salukis shot 34% for the remainder of the game.
SIU, now 4-18 overall and 2-11 in Missouri Valley Conference play, will conclude its four-game homestand on Sunday at 2 p.m. vs. UIC in the SIH Blackout Cancer Game.
