
Recap | Salukis Suffer Fifth Straight Loss on Saturday at Northern Iowa, 87-51

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (4-21 overall, 2-14 conference) suffered its fifth consecutive defeat on Saturday at Northern Iowa, losing by a final score of 87-51.
Northern Iowa was dominant and consistent on both ends throughout the game, shooting 53% from the field and 45% from three-point range. SIU couldn't counter on the opposite side, shooting 28% from the field and 31% from beyond the arc.
The Salukis found consistency at the charity stripe, however, going 13-of-15 (87%) on their free throw attempts.
Southern struggled with turnovers during the contest, turning the ball over 19 times as opposed to forcing 12. UNI had more blocks, 7-0, more steals, 12-2, and more assists, 17-2, than SIU on Saturday.
Three different players scored in double figures for Southern Illinois in the loss, with sophomore Kayla Cooper's 14 points leading the way.
Senior Tyranny Brown had 12 points while junior Gift Uchenna posted her 17th double-double (11 points, 19 rebounds), which ranks in the top five in the nation. Uchenna is now 12 rebounds away from tying the SIU single-season rebounding record (341, Dyana Pierre, 2015).
UNI found consistent results in each of the four quarters, as it did not score fewer than 19 points in any of the four frames. It scored a game-high 25 points in the third quarter.
The Salukis finished the game with a team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, but were still out-scored, 23-17, in the final 10 minutes.
Southern will head to Nashville, Tenn., for its next game on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Belmont.
