ST. LOUIS – For the second straight competition, Olivia Herron has earned the title of Missouri Valley Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week. This comes after her record-breaking performance this past Saturday at Vanderbilt where the junior broke two MVC records.
This is Herron's third time being named MVC Women's Swimmer of the Week this season and she has now earned the title in the Salukis' past two competitions.
"Olivia continues to excel this season," says head coach Geoff Hanson. "Just when we think she has reached her peak, she finds another level. I am certain she has even more improvement coming at the conference championships in three weeks."
Herron helped lead the Salukis to a 154-108 win over SEC member Vanderbilt this past Saturday. In the four events she took part in, Herron finished first in all of them while breaking a pair of MVC records. She started the afternoon with a win as part of the 200-yard medley relay team. Moving into individual events, Herron swam the 100-yard backstroke in 59.78, which not only met NCAA "B" standards but established a new MVC record. She met NCAA "B" standards again in the 200-yard breaststroke with her time of 2:09.39. Finally, she met one more "B" standard in the 400-yard IM which she finished in 4:12.96, another new MVC record. In total, Herron had four first-place finishes, three NCAA "B" standards, and set two new MVC records.
