Recap | Softball Shuts Out UT Martin, 5-0, for Midweek Win on Wednesday

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University softball team (27-17, 17-3) shut-out UT Martin, 5-0, on Wednesday in its final non-conference game of the regular season.

Southern Illinois scored all five of its runs in the first inning and had six hits with one error.
Emma Gipson and Kaytee Dahlstrom (7-2) combined to blank UT Martin in seven innings. Dahlstrom earned the win after allowing one hit, no runs, one walk, with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings pitched. Gipson allowed one hit, one walk, and had three strikeouts across 3.0 scoreless innings to begin the game.
The Salukis had 15 different players take an at bat on Wednesday. Addi Baker went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while outfielders Mikaela Coburn and Sage Grann tallied the team's other RBI.

How it Happened
It was a 1-2-3 top of the first inning for freshman starter Emma Gipson, who finished off the frame with her first strikeout of the game.

Southern then plated five runs in the bottom half, starting with a two-run single by Addi Baker that brought home Charley Pursley and Anna Carder. Mikaela Coburn then came up and hit an RBI single to center to score Jackie Lis.

Baker later scored during a Coburn stolen base for the team's fourth run of the inning. Sage Grann made it 5-0 with an RBI single of her own to score Coburn.

Gipson worked around a two-out single in the second and a lead-off walk in the third to complete three scoreless innings for SIU on Wednesday.

Fellow freshman Kaytee Dahlstrom came in to start the fourth, where she stranded two Skyhawks on base to leave the inning unscathed.

Dahlstrom shut-out UT Martin in the following three innings to lead Southern Illinois to a 5-0 win at home.

Up Next
Southern Illinois will host Murray State this weekend for its final three home games of the regular season. Game one is currently scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m., while Senior Day is on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the 'Bark in the Park' game is on Sunday at noon.
