News | Latenser Wins MVC Defensive Player of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. – For a second straight week, Southern Illinois soccer has earned a weekly honor from the Missouri Valley Conference as Dory Latenser was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Latenser scored the game-winning goal in SIU's 2-0 shutout of SEMO on Thursday while also adding an assist. Additionally, her strong defensive play helped the Salukis pick up another win on Sunday when they defeated IU-Indy, 3-1, helping Southern start their year 3-0.
This is the second weekly honor of the year for SIU following Reagan Miller being named Goalkeeper of the Week last week. Latenser is the first Saluki to win Defensive Player of the Week since Lucy Horn did so the week of October 8 last season, and this is Latenser's second ever Defensive Player of the Week award; she earned the title for the week of October 1 in 2024.
Latenser and the Salukis are back in action this Thursday, Aug. 28, when the squad travels to Alabama A&M for a 3 p.m. match.
