Recap | Thursday Tilt With Chicago State Ends in Tie for Salukis

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Playing at home for the first time since August 21, Southern Illinois soccer (6-1-1, 0-0-0) hosted Chicago State (2-3-3, 0-0-0) on Thursday night. With only a pair of own goals being scored, the Salukis and Cougars walked away tied, 1-1.

How It Happened
First Half
Miller was challenged early, facing two shots in the first 10 minutes, but made saves on both. Then, the Salukis got on the board first at 18:15 when a pass deflected off a Cougar foot and trickled into the net, giving SIU a 1-0 lead.
Following a save by each goalkeeper, Chicago State found an equalizer when a shot redirected off a Saluki defender and ended in the back of net, tying the game at 1-1. The Cougars generated one more shot on net before the first half ended, sending the teams into halftime tied 1-1.
Second Half
Southern came out on fire in the second half, putting up five shots, including one on goal, in the first 15:30 before CSU saw a shot saved at 61:05. The Salukis continued to pepper the Cougars with shots throughout the rest of the half but could never beat the Chicago State defense and their keeper. Once the clock struck zero, neither team found the tie-breaking goal, ending the game with a 1-1 tie.
