CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois soccer (6-1-0, 0-0-0) ended their five-game roadtrip with a visit to Lindenwood (3-2-2, 0-0-0) on Sunday. Facing the reigning Ohio Valley Conference champions, the Salukis pulled away with a 1-0 win to finish their long road stretch with a 4-1 record.
"Tremendous victory on the road," says head coach Graeme Orr. "Lindenwood are a very talented and organized team. First half we were second best and showed a lot of character to perform well in the second half. I believe Lindenwood will be in the OVC championship mix again this year so it's a great confidence booster for the team."

How It Happened
First Half
Lindenwood put three shots on goal within the first 15 minutes of the match, but Murray denied every attempt, including a penalty kick save at the 14:05 mark. The Lions had another shot saved at 17:23 before the Salukis finally put one on goal two minutes later, but that SIU shot was saved.
Murray had to make another pair of saves throughout the first half, and the first 45 minutes ended with a Southern shot-on-goal that was saved with less than 15 seconds to play.
Second Half
Both teams saw a shot saved in the first five minutes of the second half and Knorr had another attempt fail at the 50:28 mark. But finally, at 51:32, Haycock was able to break through, beat the Lindenwood goalkeeper, and put SIU in front 1-0.
Schlicklin put another two shots on goal following Haycock's score, but neither found the back of the net. Knorr had a pair of shots on-goal herself in the 71st and 76th minutes, but was still held scoreless. Fortunately for SIU, one goal was all they needed as Lindenwood could not generate anymore offense before the clock hit zero, securing the Salukis' 1-0 win.

Southern returns home for the first time since August 21 on Thursday, Sept. 11, when SIU hosts Chicago State at 6 p.m.
