Swim and Dive Honors Seniors with Wins Over Evansville; Women’s Team Falls to Indiana State

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Swim and dive was in action on Saturday with a home meet against Evansville and Indiana State's women's only team. It was also Senior Day for Southern, who honored 12 seniors before the meet began. Both Saluki teams took down Evansville, but the women's team fell to Indiana State.
How it Happened
The Salukis started the day with a one-two finish in the women's 200-medley relay, and the men's "B" and "C" followed up with bookending the their 200-medley relay event. Southern's first individual win came courtesy of Joshua Aceves in the men's 1000-freestyle, where his teammate finished as runner-up.
Susy Hernandez, one of the senior honored pre-meet came up with a gold medal of her own in the 200-freestyle, and Willem Huggins claimed first on the men's side of the event. Moving to the 100-backstroke, Liseska Gallegos Gutierrez won the women's event while senior Alex Cimera took care of business on the men's side.
Another senior, Olivia Herron, came in first in the women's 100-breaststroke, while freshman Maddax Thompson did so in the men's version of the event. Nate Worsham was the next Saluki to win an event, doing so in the men's 200-butterfly, and Benedek Andor followed suit in the 50-freestyle.
Once diving events began, Oliver Mebs took the crown in the one-meter dive. Hernandez grabbed another gold medal in the 100-freestyle. In the men's 100-freestyle, Cimera won another event. Gallegos then snagged herself another gold medal in the 200-backstroke.
In the 200-breaststroke event, Herron took first for the women's side and Thompson did so for the men's team. Tomas Peciar came out on top in the men's 500-freestyle, and Cimera added another win to his resume with his first-place finish in the 100-butterfly. In the final individual event of the day, Herron and Juraj Barcot claimed first place in the 200-IM. The meet wrapped up with the 200-freestyle relay, which SIU's men's "A" team took the crown in.
