Last Time Out
With this past Saturday's game against Belmont being postponed, SIU has not been in action since January 22 when they defeated Indiana State, 86-74. Alayna Kraus led all scorers with 22 points, while Indya Green was not too far behind with 19 points. Green and Jeniah Thompson tied for the game-lead in rebounds with nine apiece. Despite the win, Southern struggled at the free-throw line, going 26-45.
On the Road Again
This will be SIU's first game on away from home since January 4. During their recent five-game homestand, the Salukis compiled a 3-2 record, grabbing wins over Valparaiso, UIC, and Indiana State. Southern has struggled on the road this year, going 0-6 in away games and 0-2 in neutral site games.
The Matchup
SIU has dominated the all-time matchup against the Racers, 41-11. However, Murray State has handled SIU as of late, winning the past six games, including their matchup earlier this year when the Racers won 87-74 on January 15. The Salukis have not beaten the Racers since January 2023, when they won 81-73 at Murray State. Southern does hold the advantage when playing in Murray as well, leading that series 16-5.
Murray has proven to be one of the top dogs in the Missouri Valley Conference this season. The Racers hold a 17-3 overall record while they are 8-1 in conference play. They are coming off a thrilling win at Drake on Sunday, where a Halli Poock bucket with two seconds to play gave the Racers the win. Murray State's last loss, and only MVC loss, came on Friday when they fell 89-74 at UNI.
