Salukis Extend Record Winning Streak to Eight With 2-1 Win at Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southern Illinois women's soccer extended its program-record winning streak to eight matches Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Belmont. The Salukis improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play with the win.
First Half
Belmont came out with early pressure, but Southern Illinois goalkeeper KK Miller kept the Salukis in the match with seven first-half saves. On the offensive end, Maya Dixon continued to pressure the Bruins throughout the opening 45 minutes, creating opportunities and keeping the Bruins' defense under pressure.
After a scoreless first half, both teams returned from the break with increased pressure and intensity.
Second Half
Southern Illinois struck first in the 47th minute when Maya Dixon found the back of the net off an assist from Victoria Hassan, giving the Salukis a 1-0 lead.
Dixon found the back of the net again in the 64th minute, this time off an assist from Celina Pinelli, to extend Southern's lead to 2-0. The two goals brought Dixon's season total to seven. Belmont answered in the 68th minute to cut the Salukis' lead to 2-1.
The Bruins continued to pressure Southern in the final minutes, but the Salukis held on defensively to secure the road victory and extend their winning streak to eight matches.
