Salukis Welcome Illinois State for Pink Out

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer returns home Saturday for a Missouri Valley Conference matchup as the Salukis host a pink-out at 6 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex.

The Salukis enter the weekend at 9-2 overall and 3-0 in MVC play after earning a 2-1 victory at Belmont on Oct. 3. Southern has won eight consecutive matches — the longest winning streak in program history — and has scored 24 goals while allowing just seven through 11 matches.
Sophomore Maya Dixon has led the offense, scoring both goals in the win over Belmont to bring her season total to seven. Victoria Hassan and Celina Pinelli each recorded an assist in the victory.
Goalkeeper K.K. Miller has also been key to the Salukis' success, recording seven saves in the first half against Belmont. Southern has allowed just seven goals this season and has recorded five shutouts.
Illinois State enters Saturday's matchup at 8-1-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Redbirds are unbeaten in their last nine matches and are coming off a 6-0 victory over UNI on Oct. 4.
The Redbirds have scored 22 goals this season while allowing seven. They have been particularly effective at home, but will face a Southern team that has won eight straight heading into Saturday's matchup.
Saturday's matchup features two of the Missouri Valley Conference's top teams, with both Southern Illinois and Illinois State entering unbeaten in league play.
Preseason Honors
Southern Illinois was selected fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll with 59 points. Junior Guliana Balistreri earned a spot on the preseason all-conference team.
Brooke Goose received MVC Player of the Week recognition on Aug. 18 after scoring twice against Western Illinois. Penny Warner also earned the weekly award following her hat trick in Southern's program-record 8-0 victory over Alabama A&M.
Reagan Miller was named MVC Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 15 after recording two shutouts and helping the Salukis extend their winning streak to five matches. The honor marked her third career MVC Goalkeeper of the Week selection.
Maya Dixon was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week following her two-goal performance in Southern Illinois' 2-1 victory over Evansville on Sept. 19. Dixon scored twice in the opening 26 minutes, with both goals assisted by Victoria Hassan.
Nao Katamoto was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Sept. 29 following her two-goal performance in Southern Illinois' 2-1 victory over Murray State on Sept. 26. Katamoto scored both of the Salukis' goals, including the game-winning goal in the 29th minute, to help Southern extend its program-record winning streak to seven matches.
