Ulrich has made a major impact on an impressive Saluki's men's golf team that has turned heads early this season. The junior now ranks 20th all-time in stroke average at Southern Illinois University, a testament to both his consistency and his role in the program's recent success.
Saluki Athletics recently sat down with Ulrich to talk about his journey in golf, his development as a player, and what wearing the Saluki uniform means to him.
Q: What got you into golf, and when did you start playing?
A: My parents started playing before I was born, so it's always been in the family. Ever since I could walk, I've had a club in my hand.
Q: Favorite course you've ever played? Why?
A: Probably The Seminole Legacy at Florida State University. It's a true test of every aspect of the game.
Q: Go-to club in a pressure moment?
A: Driver – turn off the brain and hit it far.
Q: Best round of your life?
A: 62 (-10) from the reds, featuring a hole-in-one.
Q: What's one part of your game you're working on right now?
A: Wedges within 80 yards. Trying to get better at taking advantage of opportunities.
Q: Pre-round routine or superstition?
A: My only superstition is that I only change my ball on a par 3.
Q: Dream teammate (any golfer, past or present)?
A: Ben Crane to lift the mood off the course.
Q: Toughest course you've played in college?
A: The toughest course I've played is Purdue's Kampen-Cosler at the 2024 Regional.
Q: What does being a Saluki mean to you?
A: Being a Saluki means you want to win no matter what. We pride ourselves on being the hardest workers every single day. Words that come to mind when thinking of a Saluki are dedicated, tough, and resilient.
