CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Dawgs fell short in their home opener Tuesday afternoon as Southern Illinois dropped an 11–0 decision to Miami University at Itchy Jones Stadium.
Miami scored in five different innings, including a three-run fourth and a four-run seventh, to pull away from the Salukis in the midweek matchup. The RedHawks finished with 11 runs on 11 hits while SIU was held to five hits in the loss.
Kye Watson, Tim Simay, Michael Mylott, Andrew Savage, and Henry Kufa each recorded a hit for Southern Illinois, which left five runners on base and was unable to push a run across despite turning a pair of doubles.
Bryce Kimball was charged with the loss after allowing two earned runs over three innings of work. Dylan Petrey followed with 3.1 innings out of the bullpen, while Gavan Wernsing, Tyson Greene, and Jace Kirby combined to work the final 1.2 innings.
Miami improved to 7-1 with the win, while SIU moved to 1-6 on the season following the midweek setback in Carbondale.
