Women’s Basketball to Close Out Home Schedule With Senior Day on Saturday

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Three games remain in the 2025-26 women's basketball season, and the home portion of that season comes to an end on Saturday for Southern Illinois (9-17, 6-11) when the Salukis host Drake University (9-18, 8-9). It will also be Senior Day for the Saluki as they honor their three senior players before tipoff.

Last Time Out
SIU last played on Thursday, falling at Illinois State, 78-60. Southern led the Redbirds by seven going into halftime, but Illinois State outscored the Salukis by 25 in the second half to pull away with the dominant win. Indya Green had a monster first half, scoring 22 points. However, she went quiet in the second half to finish the game with 24 points and nine boards. Alayna Kraus also hit double-digit points with 12.
Senior Day
Saturday against Drake will be Senior Day for the Salukis. Approximately 12 minutes before tipoff, senior Karris Allen and graduate students Green and Jeniah Thompson will be honored for the time and dedication they have put into the program.
After joining the Salukis last season, Allen did not appear due to injury. This year, the Sikeston, Missouri, native as appeared in 25 games for the Salukis this season, totaling over 340 minutes. Green transferred to SIU this season and has made 22 starts. She currently is averaging 13.6 points-per-game and 9.3 rebounds-per-game. As for Thompson, she is in her second year as a Saluki. She has made 28 starts in maroon while averaging nearly nine points.
In addition to the three players, SIU will also honor student manager Alek Abell and graduate student Peyton Thevenot during the ceremony.
The Matchup
Drake has dominated the all-time series with Southern, leading it 67-30. They met previously this season on January 2 in Des Moines, Iowa, where the Bulldogs emerged victorious, 89-75, Drake sixth straight win over SIU. The Salukis have not taken down Drake since February 13, 2022, at SIU.
The Bulldogs enter this game on a bit of a hot streak, having won three of their previous four matchups. Prior to their current spree of wins, Drake had lost five straight between January 25 and February 7, a stretch that included games against some of The Valley's premier programs such as Murray State, Bradley, Belmont, and Illinois State.
