Road Spree for Women’s Basketball Ends Saturday at Valparaiso

CARBONDALE, Ill. – After spending the past two games on the road, Southern Illinois women's basketball (7-13, 4-7) end their stretch of road games Saturday afternoon with a visit to Valparaiso (0-23, 0-12) at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
SIU is coming off a nail-biting win over UIC on Thursday night, 55-53. The game came down to the final buzzer where Jeniah Thompson put back an offensive rebound to win the game for the Salukis. Alayana Kraus was the driving force on offense, dropping 18 points and four rebounds, and she was helped out greatly by Tkiyah Nelson and her game-leading five assists. SIU was lead thought by their defense, which help the Flames to 37.7% shooting from the field and just 14 points in the opening half.

The Matchup
After their win over Valparaiso earlier this season (97-59 on January 10), SIU leads their shared history 10-5. However, the Beacons won their last matchup at Valparaiso, 75-66 on January 6, 2025. Southern's last win in Valparaiso came on March 7, 2024 in 60-51 fashion.

The Beacons are still winless on the season, rolling into this matchup with a 0-23 overall record and 0-12 mark in conference play. Valparaiso is coming off a 83-59 loss to Evansville on Thursday at home. They are winless dating back to their third-to-last game of the 2024-25 season, which was a win over Drake on March 6, 2025.
