Evans Named Valley's Pitcher of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois' Andrew Evans was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Evans is SIU's first Pitcher of the Week award winner since Alec Nigut earned the honor in February 2025.
Andrew Evans threw five shutout innings in Southern Illinois' 9-1 victory over Omaha Friday at the Cambria Classic. The right-hander struck out three batters and allowed five hits with just one walk in the effort, helping him improve to 2-1 on the season. SIU's Friday starter is fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference in ERA (1.96) and WHIP (.96) and has 22 strikeouts, second in the MVC.
