Lindenwood Defeats Southern with Ninth-Inning Push

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois baseball fell to Lindenwood for the first time in its history after two ninth-inning runs broke a 1-1 tie Tuesday night at Itchy Jones Stadium.
The Salukis (10-17) received another outstanding performance from a starter, this time from redshirt freshman Alec Ammerman.
A sacrifice fly from Jaden Flores put the Salukis on the board in the second, and would be the only run scored between the two teams through six as Ammerman and the LU staff largely shut down the offenses.
Nearing 80 pitches, Ammerman continued to cruise into the seventh and was one out away from escaping the inning before Kam Edwards stepped to the plate. Edwards hit a long drive to right that would stay in the park, but a rare drop on the run from Julio Guerrero allowed Jake Radosevich to score on the play and tie the game. Ammerman finished out the inning and limited the damage to just one run.
His best performance of 2026, Ammerman threw seven complete innings without allowing an earned run, striking out six and giving up just three hits with one walk.
The teams combined to go 0-for-26 with runners on base, with Southern accounting for 16 of those opportunities and nine with runners in scoring position.
On a day where advancing runners was easier said than done, Radosevich took matters into his own hands in the top of the ninth, hitting a solo homer off of Southern's Jack MacIntosh, the first long ball allowed by the right-hander this season.
Edwards caused more problems for Southern, singling up the middle, stealing second and advancing to third on an error before scoring on a wild pitch.
Down 3-1 entering the ninth, SIU had the tying run at the plate, but Easton Rakers won a ferocious nine-pitch battle with Kye Watson by catching him looking for the third and final out.
Rakers earned his first win of the season, while Jack MacIntosh (L, 3-3) took the loss.
