DES MOINES, Iowa - In the final game of a three-game series at Drake, the Southern Illinois University softball team (25-14 overall, 14-5 MVC) saw its seven-game winning streak snapped in a 10-7 loss against the Bulldogs.

Southern Illinois fell in an early hole as Drake hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Brooklynn Danielson bounced back with a 1-2-3 second inning where she recorded a pair of fly outs and one strikeout.

One day after hitting her first-career home run, redshirt sophomore Maleah Blomenkamp hit another one on Saturday in the top of the third. This one was a solo shot that cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the following inning, sophomore Hayden Kurtz tied the game with a solo home run of her own, making it 2-2. This was the sophomore's fifth home run of the season and first since March 21 at Illinois State.

Freshman Hailey Lucas, who replaced Danielson in the third, worked around a lead-off single in the bottom of the fourth to keep the score at 2-2.

After junior Mikaela Coburn started the fifth inning with a single, sophomore Sage Grann hit a two-run home run to put the Salukis ahead, 4-2. The homer was the second of Grann's career (hit her first on April 5 at Indiana State).

Southern Illinois added a pair of runs in the fifth after Grann's two-run shot. First, it was pinch-runner Brooklyn Pritchett scoring on an RBI single by Amanda Knutson. The lead was extended to 6-2 when Kurtz doubled to right center, driving in Sydney Potter from second.

Drake answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and then three in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-6 lead into the seventh inning.

There, Knutson hit a solo home run to make it 10-7. SIU was unable to complete the comeback, however, leading to 10-7 being the final score.

The Salukis will return home next weekend to host Northern Iowa, starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 2 p.m.
