CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer put together a dominant performance at home, defeating Alabama A&M 8-0 and setting a new school record for goals in a single match. The previous mark was five goals against Western Illinois on Aug. 16. Penny Warner became the first Saluki to record a hat trick since Liz Brechtel on Nov. 2, 2019.

The Salukis came out firing from the opening whistle, controlling the game and putting pressure on the Bulldogs early. SIU's offensive effort built throughout the match, as the Salukis found the net eight times for their most dominant victory of the season.

Dana Nadda scored Southern's first goal in the fourth minute. Celina Pinelli and Victoria Hassan followed with their first goals of the season in the 13th and 29th minutes.

Warner's hat trick stood out for its speed in scoring. After giving the Salukis a 4-0 lead near the end of the first half, she added two more goals immediately to open the second half. Her three goals spanned just 4 minutes, 10 seconds of game time.

SIU's offensive momentum never slowed as the Salukis continued to create and convert chances. After already surpassing the previous school record on the sixth goal of the day, Nadda added her second score to make it 7-0. Edin Abougzir finished the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 87th minute.

Nao Katamoto had another strong day distributing the ball, finishing with four assists.

UP NEXT
The Salukis remain at home Thursday when they welcome Lindenwood to the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
