CARBONDALE, Ill. — Following Southern Illinois' 8-0 win over Alabama A&M on Sunday, forward Penny Warner was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Warner had the program's first hat trick since 2019 as the Salukis reset their school record with eight goals in a shutout of Alabama A&M Sunday in Carbondale. The Pearland, Texas, native scored all three goals in just 4 minutes, 10 seconds of game time. Her third goal was Southern's sixth of the day, which helped them surpass the previous program record of five. She is now tied for second in the Missouri Valley Conference with the three goals on the season, and joins teammate Brooke Gosse as the second Saluki to earn the honor.
