Salukis Set to Defend Their Home Turf After Record-Setting Win

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Coming off a record-setting performance, Southern Illinois women's soccer hosts Lindenwood on Thursday night.
The Salukis scored a school-record eight goals in Sunday's victory, led by a hat trick from forward Penny Warner — the highest-scoring game in program history. SIU will look to build on its offensive showing as it continues its early-season schedule.

Preseason Honors
Southern Illinois (59 points) was picked fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference women's soccer preseason poll. Junior Guliana Balistreri was named to the Valley's preseason team. Drake (96, seven first-place votes), Illinois State (83, two first-place votes), UIC (77) and Murray State (69) led the poll, while Indiana State (58) finished sixth.
Midfielder Brooke Goose was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Aug. 18 after scoring two goals against Western Illinois as part of SIU's then-school-record five goals.
Forward Penny Warner earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors following her three-goal performance in SIU's 8-0 victory, which set a new school record for goals in a single game.
Salukis on the Big Stage
Senior midfielder Dana Nadda attended the Egyptian national team camp in the spring as part of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. Additionally, sophomore Michelle Betancourt was selected to the U.S. women's national futsal team and attended camp in July.
The Matchup
Lindenwood won the only previous meeting between the programs, 1-0, in September 2024.
The Lions enter Thursday at 2-3-1 after a 0-0 draw with Omaha on Sunday.
