Salukis Extend Program Record With Seventh-Straight Win

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer extended its school-record winning streak to seven matches Saturday night with a 2-1 victory over Murray State at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex.
The Racers struck first just 2:55 into the match, but the Salukis responded with a strong first half, continuing to pressure the Murray State defense and create chances of their own.
Southern found the equalizer in the 22nd minute when Nao Katamoto converted a penalty kick to make it 1-1.
Just over seven minutes later, Katamoto found the back of the net again, giving the Salukis a 2-1 lead in the 29th minute. Maya Dixon and Dana Nadda assisted on the goal.
Southern took the 2-1 advantage into halftime and held Murray State scoreless in the second half to secure the victory. The Salukis finished with a 15-12 advantage in shots, while goalkeeper Reagan Miller made four saves.
The win marked Southern's seventh consecutive victory and established a new program record. The Salukis improved to 8-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Katamoto finished with two goals, giving her three on the season. Dixon and Nadda each recorded an assist.
UP NEXT
The Salukis return to action Saturday at Belmont. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee.
