Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Teams Picked To Finish Second At 2003 MVC Championships

St. Louis, Mo. - The Southern Illinois University men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been picked to finish second in the 2003 MVC Swimming & Diving Pre-Championship Coaches Poll today. SMS was picked to win both crowns for the first time in MVC history in the pre-championship coaches poll.
The SIU women finished a point behind SMS (23) with 22 points, followed by Evansville (12), Illinois State (12) and Northern Iowa (6). SMS received three first place votes and the Salukis picked up two in the poll.
The SIU men received six points while SMS was picked first and collected all three first place votes and nine points. Evansville received three points and was picked third.
The 2003 MVC Swimming & Diving Championships will begin tomorrow at the Student Rec Center and run through Saturday, Feb. 22. The preliminaries will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. Finals will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 5 p.m. for Saturday's final session.
The Saluki men and women will both be looking to repeat as MVC champions. The SIU women have won the last five titles and seven of the eight MVC crowns, while the men will be looking for their second straight crown after winning six of the last eight MVC titles.
The 2003 MVC Championship meet runs Thursday through Saturday and is free and open to the public.
