Carbondale, Ill. - Ameren Energy Services Company recently gave the Southern Illinois University Athletic Department a 10,000-dollar SmartLights grant to assist in the construction and lighting of Charlotte West Stadium-Rochman Field.
"SIU Athletics receiving the grant helped make a difference in our campaign for the softball stadium," said Director of Athletic Development Tommy Bell. "Ameren's continued support to athletics has been beneficial in improving our facilities."
Launched in 1998, the Ameren SmartLights program provides up to $5,000 to civic and non-profit organizations for new or replacement energy-efficient lighting projects in public places. This past year, Ameren awarded SmartLights grants to 50 lighting projects in Missouri and Illinois. Although Ameren has done various things for the university in the past, the SmartLights grant marks the first ever given to Saluki Athletics.
