Carbondale, IL. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale athletics director Paul Kowalczyk has named Tom Weber to serve as the new Director of Media Services for SIU athletics.
Weber is currently the Assistant Sports Information Director at Vanderbilt University and will join the Southern Illinois University athletic staff on Monday, July 23.
"We're extremely pleased to have a person of Tom's caliber join the staff here at SIU. He's a true professional and will do an excellent job," said Paul Kowalczyk, SIU Athletics Director.
"He's bright, articulate and knows the business. Additionally, his computer technology skills will be a tremendous benefit to the department."
"I look forward to being a part of the team. I was very impressed with the direction the athletic department is taking under Paul Kowalczyk," stated Weber. "He is committed to doing things the right way and building programs that the school and community can be proud of. I wanted to be a part of that success."
Weber has ten years of experience in Division I offices and most recently served as the football contact and the publications coordinator during his five years at Vanderbilt.
He also worked to improve Vanderbilt's internet technology by introducing real-time stats, audio and video clips, and photo galleries to the Vanderbilt athletic site.
Prior to Vanderbilt, Weber worked as an assistant SID at Ohio State University (1995-96) and Marshall University (1993-95).
He graduated from Ball State University in 1992 with degrees in journalism and political science. He also earned a master's degree in athletic administration from Marshall in 1995.
Weber will replace SIU Hall of Fame sports information director Fred Huff, who is retiring after 35 years in Saluki athletics on July 31.
