SIU Foundation Receives 25,000 Dollars Endowment From Herrin Security Bank For SIU Athletics

Herrin, Ill. - On Tuesday, November 5, the Herrin Security Bank, under the charge of bank president Charles Helleny, signed an agreement establishing a $25,000 endowment with the Southern Illinois University Foundation to develop an endowed scholarship for the SIU Athletic Department. The endowment will provide athletic scholarships for SIU student-athletes.
" We're very pleased with the generosity of the Herrin Security Bank. We thank Charles Helleny and the bank board for this leadership gift which emphasizes Herrin Security's commitment to our student-athletes and their academic success," SIU Athletics Director Paul Kowalczyk said.
Helleny, a 1957 SIU alum, was happy to contribute to SIU Athletics and its new scholarship fund to assists its student-athletes.
"Herrin Security Bank is privileged and happy to contribute to the scholarship fund to aid SIU student-athletes. This endowment is part of the direction the athletic department is taking to offer scholarships to deserving student-athletes and we're glad to participate."
The endowment doesn't have any restrictions and will help the athletic department for the long term.
"Endowments stand the test of time. This will be here to assist athletics in providing scholarship aid for student-athletes now and in the future," added Tommy Bell, SIU Foundation Development Officer. "We are very thankful to Charles Helleny and the Herrin Security Bank's Board of Directors."
