Men's Swimming & Diving Leads Northwestern Invite After Day One, Women Sit Third

Evanston, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's swimming and diving team leads #24 Southern Methodist by one point after day one of the Northwestern Invite. SIU has 277 points, while SMU has 276 and host Northwestern has 242.
The SIU men were led by the second place finishes of Derek Helvey (500 free) and Devin Aikins (3-Meter). Jake Sinclair (3-Meter) and Edoardo Daelli (50 free) placed third in their respective events, while Adam Gangl (200 IM) and Ivan Sanchez (500 free) added fourth place finishes.
The SIU women are in third place with 191.5 points, trailing Northwestern (332) and Illinois (229.50) The Salukis were led by the finishes of Briley Bergen (3rd), Amber Mullins (5th) and Liz McGowan (7th) in the 500 free. Andrea Johnson added a sixth place finish in the 3-Meter dive and Megan Simms (50 free) and Melinda Page (200 IM) added ninth place finishes.
The Northwestern Invite will hold day two of the championship format event on Saturday and conclude the meet on Sunday at Northwestern in Evanston, Ill.
