Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Second At Northwestern Invite, Women Finish Third

Evanston, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's swimming and diving team finished second to Northwestern at the Northwestern Invite on Sunday. The Saluki women finished third behind Northwestern and Illinois.
The Saluki men fell just 16 points (904) short of Northwestern (920) and beat #24 Southern Methodist (900) in the three-day championship format event.
On Sunday, the SIU men were led by Marcelo Possato's win in the 200 back in a career-best 1:47.49. Edoardo Daelli (100 free) and Ivan Sanchez (1650 free) added third place finishes. Matthew Glowacki (100 free) and Christian Tinajero (200 breast) chipped in with fifth place finishes for SIU.
The SIU women finished third with 695.50 points. Northwestern finished first (1002 points), followed by Illinois (866.50). SMU finished fourth with 67 points.
Suzanne Souders led the SIU women with a second place finish in the 200 back. Briley Bergen (1650 free) and Liz McGowan (200 back) each finished third. Amber Mullins (200 back) and Brigitta Olson (200 fly) added fourth place finishes for the Salukis.
The SIU men and women will not compete again until they meet Western Kentucky next year in a dual on January 18, 2003 at the SIU Rec Center Pool.
