Alvy Armstrong Bio
Alvy Armstrong was named Coordinator of Equipment and Facilities in February of 2002.
Since his arrival at SIU, Alvy has developed a computer tracking system for disbursement and retrieval of athletic equipment and has worked closely with all major equipment suppliers to outfit 18 intercollegiate athletic teams with practice and competition gear.
Alvy is responsible for equipment disbursement for Football and Men's and Women's Basketball and travels with Saluki Football during their playing season.
Raised in East Palestine, Ohio, he was an equipment manager throughout high school. After working in the private sector for six years, he enrolled at Youngstown State University and worked as a student manager while earning his bachelors degree in human performance and exercise science. He became a full time assistant at YSU in 1996 and continued in that role until taking the job at SIU. During his time at Youngstown State and SIU, the football team's have appeared in the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs twelve times.
Alvy is a Certified Equipment Manager and a member of the AEMA (Athletic Equipment Managers' Association).
He currently resides in Herrin with his dog, Dinner.
