Derek Swenson joined SIU in August 2013. Prior to SIU, Swenson was a Compliance Coordinator at the University of South Dakota.

Swenson's primary areas of responsibility are student-athlete eligibility and amateurism.

Derek is originally from Dickinson, ND. He earned a B.A. from the University of North Dakota, majoring in History, before attending the University of Michigan Law School. While at Michigan, Swenson enrolled in a joint degree program and earned an M.A. in Sports Management as well as his J.D.
