Lee Weld Blog - Rehab Update
March 31, 2011
Southern Illinois sophomore pitcher Lee Weld is keeping a blog throughout the entire 2011 season. Weld, who is going to miss the entire year because of a shoulder injury, will talk about his rehab and what is going on with the Saluki baseball program in his blog. Here is his fifth entry of the season...
Hello Saluki Baseball fans!
It's been awhile since I've updated my blog and there has been some exciting stuff happening. I'm back to update you on how my rehab is going and a little update on the season from my perspective.
I've been really excited about some of the gains that I've made in my rehab during the last couple of weeks. I am in the middle of my second phase, which is getting all of my range of motion back without any pain or discomfort. There has been quite a bit of pain so far.
The best part about these next couple of weeks is that I'll be going through a lot of pain, but also with a light at the end of the tunnel. From what my athletic trainer, Mike Nolan or MTT (Mike the Trainer) and I have talked about, I should be able to start my throwing program in around six weeks! I've never been so excited to hear that I'll be able to throw a baseball.
It seems like just yesterday that I had my surgery and wouldn't be able to throw for four to six months. The weeks have really flown by and it makes for my motivation to rehab that much more intense. As I write this, I'm getting excited about doing it tomorrow because I know it gets me one step closer!
As for an update on our team, we had a pretty good week this last week with taking two out of three. I was really excited that we beat Eastern Illinois, which is always a good one to win since we're in-state and the games are always good ones.
Dallas Baptist was a series that we should've taken both games of the rain-shortened series. On Friday, we had a chance to close the door on a pretty good team and couldn't find the chance to shut it down. It really hurt me because as a closer, that would've been my opportunity to put a game away for us and not being able to do that stings a little bit.
I know our guys that we have at the end of games are more than capable of doing it, they just have to get the attitude that they can and will!
This week will be a good opportunity to get back on track again against a quality opponent in Kennesaw State. I hope to see some Saluki supporters at the games.
Thanks for reading!
