Hancock joined the Salukis after spending the 2014 season as a coach at Cowley County Community College where he also coached first base and worked with catchers, outfielders, and hitters. Last season, the Tigers had an impressive season, racking up a record of 38-17. Prior to joining the Cowley coaching staff, Hancock served as a student coach at Newman University where he had the same responsibilities.
A native of Washington, Okla., Hancock brings plenty of baseball experience to SIU. He spent his first two collegiate seasons (2009-10) at Cowley where he was a standout player under Dave Burroughs. As a freshman, Hancock played in 50 games with 122 at-bats, 23 RBI and a .311 batting average. He also competed in the junior college World Series that year. Hancock followed his debut season with an even better sophomore year, when he played in 50 games, had 44 RBI and improved his batting average to .370. During his time at Cowley, he was also selected to participate in the Kansas Jayhawk All-Star game. Hancock spent his junior year with Central Oklahoma, playing in 41 games with a .336 batting average, .435 slugging percentage and 30 RBI.Hancock spent his final season at Newman University, where he earned his degree in Sport Communication.
