Ryan McClaran joined the Saluki baseball program as the pitching coach prior to the 2026 season after a three-year stint at Louisiana Monroe.
Over his time with the Warhawks, McClaran helped ULM to 64 wins while developing a pitching staff that saw six arms sign Major League Baseball free agent contracts. In 2024, his staff set a new single-season program record with 471 strikeouts.
Â
Prior to his time at ULM, McClaran spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Maine. In 2022, he helped lead the Black Bears to a 27-22 overall record and a 21-9 mark in the America East Conference, earning the top seed in the conference tournament. The 21 league wins marked the program’s most since 2013 and the second-most in school history. That season, Maine led the America East in strikeouts with 268, and pitcher Trevor LaBonte was among four players to earn First-Team All-America East honors.
Â
In his first season at Maine, McClaran helped guide the team to a 22-22 record and a berth in the America East Tournament. Under his direction, Nicholas Sinacola was named a First-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, becoming the first Black Bear to earn the honor since 1991 and just the fourth in program history.
Â
Before arriving in Orono, McClaran served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at El Paso Community College, where he oversaw the pitching staff. He also held coaching roles at Murray State College and Missouri Baptist, helping the Spartans to a fourth-place finish at the NAIA World Series.
Â
Before starting his coaching career, McClaran served in the United States Army Infantry. He resides in Carterville with his wife, Brynn.
